With no real surprises, Humanoid dishes out great dollops of steel, memorable choruses, sharp riffs, and decent lyrics. Let’s also not forget that Accept can still rattle off waves of speed metal too, anthemic hymns and even a semi-ballad with ‘Ravages Of Time’.

The world in which the combo exists may seem all too grey and metallic at times, and that’s just that efficient German dynamism, but there are some top notch tracks on offer here, with my personal favourites being ‘Nobody Gets Out Alive’, ‘Man Up’ and ‘Frankenstein’ which boasts a killer chorus. In fact, most of the album is a force to be reckoned with as closer ‘Southside Of Hell’ speeds with real purpose and a fine way to end the opus.

This is simply consistent heavy metal that rocks hard at whichever pace it chooses, and yes, we do know what’s coming and a couple of tracks – ‘Unbreakable’ and ‘Straight Up Jack’ – are rather unspectacular, but ‘Mind Games’ is an absolute cruncher.

Accept mainman Wolf Hoffmann remains the star here with his exceptional riffs and his 15 year partnership with current vocalist Mark Tornillo is crucial to the band’s longevity. Humanoid is another solid and occasionally reflective record that will please the die-hards.

Neil Arnold

ACCEPTHumanoid Napalm (2024)Rating: 8/10 With their 17th full-length studio outing metal legends Accept keeps things on the level with another solid, balls to the wall opus.
