It came as quite a shock that one of my favourite death metal acts, Cerebral Rot, had split, but Corpus Offal is a rather instant result of the American band dissolving and with this demo the grimness continues. Consisting of ex-Cerebral Rot members Ian Schwab (vocals and guitar) and Clyle Lindstrom (guitar), as well as bassist Jason Sachs (ex-Demoncy) drummer Jesse Shreibman (Bell Witch \/ Autophagy), Corpus Offal brings a brace of songs that are not too far removed from the Cerebral Rot slop.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s hard to judge any new band based on two songs but they do provide an ideal teaser for what\u2019s to come with Corpus Offal\u2019s debut full-length album, which is due in 2024. Both \u2018Ripened Psychosis\u2019 and \u2018Gorging Gastric Decedent\u2019 feature the usual swampy bludgeoning that is delivered in groggy yet catchy fashion. Putrid riffs, quagmire bass lines, fetid drums and dismal vocalisations ensure that a macabre atmosphere is channelled.<\/p>\n

There are no real surprises with this demo and Corpus Offal is no doubt testing the waters, but I\u2019m sure that anything the band releases will receive a positive reception.<\/p>\n
