Even so, the debut full-length outing from this combo has its moments and is consistently fast and belligerent although it does lack identity.

Like a lot of this sort of stuff it takes great influence from the classic German and US thrash scenes, so you’ll hear flashes of Slayer, Exodus, Destruction etc., but if I may add, also an understated and raw British thrash feel. Guitarist Pablo Díaz has a short shouty-style to his chops, an in your face assault that adds extra hostility to the songs, particularly my favourite trio of ‘Path Of Evil’, ‘Bonecrusher’ and ‘Madhouse’.

The band isn’t afraid to add melody too, such as on ‘The Last Day’ and ‘Rush’, but those speedier elements are never far away and remain throughout as you would hope from a thrash outing. Don’t expect a record full of thrills but do expect and appreciate the glint it has in its eye as well as the aggression and energy on songs like ‘Incineration’.

Warped Reality is a solid thrash outing that grows on you with each listen and a good start for the Bulgarian posse.

Neil Arnold

THREATWarped Reality Self-released (2024)Rating: 7/10 Sofia, Bulgaria-based act Threat may struggle to make any headway within the thrash genre with such a dull and overused moniker.
