Since then, original members RobSess (vocals and bass) and Fränk The Tänk (guitar) have enlisted Armagenda drummer ManOwaR, who joined in 2018.

Now, silly band member names and bland band moniker aside, this is a fiery and fast outing drizzled with plenty of blazing riffs, hyper drums and, as I anticipated, a strong worship of the Teutonic legends Destruction and Kreator, particularly musically.

Dying World is not overtly technical or, sadly, memorable, but it does zip along quite nicely. If scalding thrash is your thing then I’ve no doubt you’ll dig the vicious offerings, especially my personal ‘All Hope Is Gone’, opener ‘Final Dawn Of Light’ and closer ‘Piece Of Cloth’. But the strongest vibe I get from Full Assault is a Trivium one, particularly with the hoarse vocals. I’ve never been a fan of Trivium, but Dying World is crisply melodic in its thrash outbursts, although most of the songs melt into big war torn cauldron that also bristles with an Accept or Rage intensity.

‘Edge Of A Collapse’, ‘Apocalyptic World’ and ‘Signs Of the End’ may, at some point, provide the ideal soundtrack to scenes depicting debris strewn and smouldering lands, but there is just something so generic about these songs, summed up by the angst-ridden haste of ‘Planet Grave’ which sounds like every other contemporary thrash act venting its anger via At The Gates.

It’s all delivered in extremely serious fashion; solid thrash with no identity. Dying World seems to lack the slickness of the last album too, so although it burns to the touch, the wounds heal very quickly as I move onto the next band.

Neil Arnold

FULL ASSAULTDying World Iron Shield (2024)Rating: 6/10 In spite of this new record being the third full-length release from this German trio, I assume they have other commitments because it’s been nearly seven years since the last album, 2017’s War Blooded.
