Only six months ago these Portland, Oregon-based death metallers issued their superb debut full-length album Festering Grotesqueries<\/em><\/a>, so I\u2019m surprised they\u2019ve re-emerged so quickly. But I\u2019m certainly not complaining because one can never have too much grisly death metal to feast on and with Ripping Remains<\/em> the guys have once again produced a batch of gore drizzled treats.<\/p>\n

Six tracks, culminating in a cover of Halloween\u2019s \u2018Trick Or Treat\u2019 hit you like a bucket of slop as Dripping Decay rancidly flays you with their maniacal weapons of mass putrefaction. The opening title track burps, bleats and batters its way into your orifices with a mayhemic belligerence before a sinister break enables the band to dwell in a slower, murkier groove.<\/p>\n

\u2018Lead To Kill\u2019 is more melodious and measured after the onslaught of \u2018Emanating Necrosis\u2019, but both harbour that slime-coating which comes to the fore with the demented judders of \u2018Wormridden Piety\u2019; particularly in the stampeding percussion. Meanwhile, \u2018Oppressive Repulsive\u2019 gnashes and mashes like the rusted pincers of a crushing machine as again those rushing percussive hammers work in tandem with vicious, sobering riffs.<\/p>\n

To an extent, the rendition of \u2018Trick Or Treat\u2019 is somewhat out of place but does show that the band can adapt to a rockier groove and it\u2019s a fun way to end the EP. Don\u2019t be surprised if Dripping Decay are back again soon, proving to be as prolific as Jason Voorhess and Michael Myers combined.<\/p>\n
