Featuring members of Friends Of Hell, Solitary Sabred and Mirror, Cyprus \/ Greece-based March To Die is a band that channels Manowar from the off. Brothers Anastasios Danazoglou (bass) \u2013 who also appeared for Electric Wizard and is a renowned tattoo artist \u2013 and Alex Danazoglou (vocals and guitar) are joined by Nikolas Sprits Moutafis (guitar) and Hugo Enrique Olivos (drums), and the cacophony they concoct is a very interesting and masculine mix of Viking metal and black metal circa Varathron, and more atmospheric traditional metal such as Cirith Ungol and latter day Bathory, as well as some thrashing chugs.<\/p>\n

This is the sort of chest-pounding metal made for battlefields as the clan stride bombastically on tides of epicness and barbaric bellowing. The song titles pretty much explain what\u2019s going on here; \u2018Hail To Thee\u2019, \u2018Stand And Be Counted\u2019, \u2018Son Of The Old Gods\u2019 and the ridiculous \u2018Helmetsmasher\u2019. Flashes of Eastern exotica, a whiff of doom, and fumes of Eternal Champion alongside Grand Magus are thrown into the cauldron and result in some truly powerful metal anthems bolstered by big melodies and yet a rather stuffy production.<\/p>\n

\u2018One Eyed King\u2019 nods to Mot\u00f6rhead, the title track is a steely combination of Iron Maiden and Exciter, and the aforementioned \u2018Helmetsmasher\u2019 just pummels with its juggernaut riffage. Throughout this steam rolling opus the Manowar comparison is omnipresent, particularly with some of the hefty bass lines, but unlike Manowar this is deadly serious. The cheese of Manowar is replaced by fiery lumps of molten steel that act as colossal cogs to drive tracks like \u2018Decapitation\u2019 and the gargantuan \u2018March To Die\u2019.<\/p>\n

There is certainly nothing unique about this raging sea of an outing, but it\u2019s one that packs a mighty punch.<\/p>\n
