I quite like the sneering vocals which add certain rawness to the more mid-tempo loping you would expect with such generic bashing. However, in spite of its formulaic theme this is still an enjoyable romp, particularly on the snappier tracks like ‘Napalm’ which is the shortest on offer at just under four minutes. I guess the lengthier compositions like ‘Reality Of Man’, ‘Covenant’ and ‘Mercury’ showcase a maturity and thankfully don’t veer all that close to becoming snooze fests because the riffs are crisp and cutting enough.

Overall, Hostile Takeover is a decent debut from an act that might be better suited to shorter songs so as to appear more vigorous and exuberant, but, as I said, this remains a solid platter with an abundance of riffs to chew on.

Neil Arnold

KILL CØMMANDHostile Takeover Self-released (2023)Rating: 7/10 Expect no mercy or originality from this forceful thrash debut full-length from Hernando, Mississippi-based upstarts Kill Cømmand.
