In 2019 Brazilian speedsters Chromeskull released their debut EP, Deads Shall Rise<\/em>, which boasted some of the worst cover art I\u2019ve ever seen! Musically, the band were a rather slapdash metal act and they remain so but with dollops of charm hidden beneath such scales of cheese and mundanity.<\/p>\n

Since 2020 Aquiles Jeronimo has been on the vocals, and his style \u2013 just like the great \/ tacky cover art \u2013 is a nostalgic croon wonderfully suited to belting out tracks like \u2018Fast N\u2019 Wild\u2019, \u2018Another Day To Fight\u2019 and the title cut. Pluck this out of the mid-80s and you probably wouldn\u2019t bat an eyelid at its loose nuts n\u2019 bolts mediocrity, but in today\u2019s climate there are metal fans that will salivate over such a nondescript entity.<\/p>\n

For me it is the lead work which shines most within such dim air, and a song like \u2018Love Is For Fools\u2019 is dragged from being a bog standard track by the crisp guitar work. Elsewhere, \u2018Drive Me Insane\u2019 has a nice gallop to its design, as does \u2018Dog Soldiers\u2019 with its steady clank.<\/p>\n

Sure, Screaming For The World<\/em> is rewarding at times and nostalgic in equal measure, but there has been a million bands like this over the years \u2013 many better and a few worse \u2013 and Chromeskull remains somewhat middle of the road in its leathery rambling. Cult status may be achieved but not much more I\u2019m afraid.<\/p>\n
