Combining death metal and grindcore, Death Storms lays waste to landscapes like an atomic bomb, relentlessly ploughing its way through cities leaving behind a trail of debris and dust.

Delivered devoid of humour and colour, Death Storms exists solely to batter and pummel through a selection of tracks crafted by Jonny Pettersson (vocals, guitar and bass, Wombbath / Heads For The Dead / Massacre) and Jon Rudin (drums, ex-Wombbath / Heads For The Dead / Just Before Dawn).

Human Harvest’s second full-length album is a concise yet impactful outing that causes mass destruction within 30 minutes. That’s not to say it exists without melody because believe me, for all the brutality there some fine melancholic glints within those pulverising chugs and merciless blizzards.

You only get dealt seven tracks and one outro, and only a brace of those tunes hit the five minute mark, but each one is constructed in such a way that their aim is to grind you to ash. The title track is utterly ruthless in its clattering, but for me it’s the mid-tempo bashing of tracks like ‘Extinction Is Evolution’ and ‘A Crushing Void’ which really hit the bone with such colossal force. This is a war machine of a record played with only one aim – to destroy.

Neil Arnold

HUMAN HARVESTDeath Storms Iron, Blood And Death Corporation (2023)Rating: 8/10 There is no beating around the bush with this release as Swedish duo Human Harvest goes straight for the vital organs with their brand of audible savagery.
