The axework of Diego Torres and Alexandra Daza is somewhat playful in its skips and gallops, while Daza then coats the frenzy in a snappy vocal squawk.

This is very energetic heavy metal delivered at pace. ‘Till The Grave’, the title track and pretty much everything else on offer here is served up with a gleeful zip and vim. The drums of Hanner Robles and the bass of Miguel Valderrama are tidy additions to the frantic mix, but melody is never sacrificed.

At times it’s all quintessentially 80s metal but played on 45rpm! Even when the band provides weight (‘Excessive Pleasure’) they just can’t refrain from a sudden dash and one always senses an air of the unorthodox about proceedings. ‘Just A Matter Of Time’ is evidence that the clan has a subtle side, but it does feel as if that at any given moment the band could go completely out of tune and crash.

Pillars Of Chaos is a strange little release from Bloody Nightmare but sort of fun with its maniacal yet eager flashes.

Neil Arnold

BLOODY NIGHTMAREPillars Of Chaos Fighter (2023)Rating: 7/10 Dripping with steely riffs and awash with a myriad of solos, Bogotá, Colombia-based beasts Bloody Nightmare present their second full-length release with cover art that glistens like the blade of a mystical sword.
