Dutch progressive rock band Arjen Lucassen\u2019s Supersonic Revolution, spearheaded by namesake musician Arjen Lucassen, have released a music video for their cover rendition of the ZZ Top track \u2018Heard It On The X\u2019, which can be viewed below.<\/p>\n

Arjen Lucassen\u2019s Supersonic Revolution issued debut full-length studio album Golden Age Of Music<\/em> on May 19th, 2023 through Music Theories Recording \/ Mascot Label Group.<\/p>\n

The whole project grew from a request to provide a track for a cover CD for the German music magazine Eclipsed<\/em>. \u201cThey asked if I had any cover versions lying around,\u201d Lucassen recalled. \u201cI said, \u2018No but I\u2019ll happily record one for you.\u2019 So, they gave me a list of bands and I saw a ZZ Top song \u2018I Heard It On The X\u2019 that I really like. I said I could record it for them, but then they told me it had to be ready in one week\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like \u2018Oh my god!\u2019. I contacted my favourite musicians in Holland via WhatsApp and literally within 30 minutes I had assembled five people. A band basically. \u2018I want to form a band. And I want to simply have fun!\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a perfectionist as you know, so I\u2019m always sending musicians their parts back and asking them to change stuff,\u201d he acknowledged. \u201cBut this was all brilliant. We were having fun, calling and WhatsApping all the time, and within a week we had a complete product. Also I wanted to have an up-beat, positive project.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, let\u2019s form a band and let\u2019s write songs in the style of the 70s, and have the lyrics be a celebration of all the memorable things from that time, because those were my formative years. But I didn\u2019t want it to sound like the 70s because that\u2019s already been done, and I can\u2019t do it any better than \u2018Stargazer\u2019 (Rainbow) or \u2018Kashmir\u2019 (Led Zeppelin).\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe guys are all younger than me \u2013 around 30 \u2013 so they weren\u2019t even alive yet in the 70s. So, it was a great way for me to make 70s music with lots of Hammond and blistering guitars, but to update it to this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The end result is debut effort Golden Age Of Music<\/em>. \u201cThis album is not a typical prog album,\u201d Lucassen said. \u201cIt\u2019s not Yes or Genesis. But it\u2019s not a metal album either. There\u2019s a track called \u2018Burn it Down\u2019. It\u2019s totally based on \u2018Smoke On The Water\u2019 (Deep Purple) but written from the perspective of the \u2018stupid with a flare gun\u2019 mentioned in the original lyrics.\u201d<\/p>\n
