Abbath Retires IMMORTAL And Forms Namesake Group
March 26th, 2015

Abbath (Olve Eikemo) retired Bergen, Norway-based black metal group Immortal and subsequently formed a namesake group, revealing this development on March 26th, 2015. Abbath was the vocalist, guitarist and founding member of Immortal.

According to Abbath, he had been writing and rehearsing material, with a slew of material ready to be recorded, but was unable to come to an agreement in order to move forward with the other members of Immortal. Therefore, he formed a new outfit.

In 2014, Abbath claimed he rightfully attempted to secure exclusive rights to the Immortal name and logo after lyricist / guitarist Demonaz (Harald Nævdal) and drummer Horgh (Reidar Horghagen) effectively quit the ensemble. The trio had been a part of Immortal since 1996, issuing five full-lengths under that line-up; Blizzard Beasts (1997), At The Heart Of Winter (1999), Damned In Black (2000), Sons Of Northern Darkness (2002), and All Shall Fall (2009).

The Abbath band intend to issue a debut studio record in the next two years, and also perform live in select instances. A London date at The Forum on September 18th, 2015 has been confirmed, as well as a February 2016 headlining slot at Blastfest in Bergen, Norway.
